About Us - The Scholarly and Reference Division

The Scholarly Division of Palgrave Macmillan is one of the leading learned publishers in the world and publishes in the Humanities, the Social Sciences, Business and Finance.

The Division publishes high-quality monographs, reference works, scholarly editions of classic works, high-level textbooks, conference volumes and other edited collections in print and online.

Featuring seminal and award-winning titles by many of the world’s foremost academic writers, including Nobel Prize winners, the programme spans a wide range of subject areas. In the Social Sciences this includes Politics and International Studies, Sociology, Criminology, Economics and Education, while in the Humanities we publish in Philosophy, Religion, History, Media Studies, Literature and Theatre. We also publish a range of titles in Business, Management and Finance and have a growing list of interdisciplinary titles.

Alongside this we publish biographies, titles focussing on current affairs, and non-fiction books for a broad, educated readership. The Division is proud to work with a number of partners including the Royal Shakespeare Company, the United Nations Development Programme, the International Economic Association and the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

Approximately 800 new books are published annually. All titles are published in hardcover editions, in paperback where appropriate, and most are available via our ebook platform, Palgrave Connect.
