The Production Process

(Please ensure you have submitted the Editorial Information, Production Options and Word Processing form - for more information see Submitting your Final Manuscript).

Once you have submitted your final manuscript, your editorial team will take a close look at your revisions, and then start to prepare your manuscript for production. Your manuscript will be passed from your editor to the Production team who organise the copy-editing, typesetting, proof-reading, printing and warehousing of your book.

This booklet contains a lot of what you need to know:

Indexing - if I don't who will?
We do encourage that as the author, you do the index for your book, as you are most familiar with the text and hence the expert in terms of navigating around it. Take a look at the following advice to get some sense of what is expected in terms of putting together the index:

FAQs

If you decide you are unable to do your index, the Production team can organise to have a professional indexer do it for you. However this will be at your cost. The price of this and method of payment will be arranged with your editor.

Jacket design
In the Scholarly and Reference division, authors must provide suggestions for an image which could be used on the cover of the book (see Q4 of the Editorial Information Form). If your book is part of a series, there may be a standard style which will have to be adhered to.

In the College division, your jacket will be individually designed (if your book is to be part of a series, there maybe a standard style which will have to be adhered to). As part of the Editorial Information Form (see Q7) we will ask for your input on the style of cover you would like and suggestions for designs. We will also share with you some options for your input.

In the College division, your back cover blurb will be written for you using the helpful suggestions given to us by you on the Author Publicity Form. We will share the blurb with you, for you to see before publication.
