Welcome to the Skill Development Guide.
In the students’ area of this website you will find a series of three detailed guides to help students master key skills in communication – critical essay writing, formal report writing and oral presentations.
This section of the lecturer zone provides brief notes explaining the rationale behind these guides.
Primarily they have been designed for students to download and use as part of the supporting material around their OB course (to help them effectively carry out assignments and to use as a broad reference point for other courses and for their future career), but not as a replacement for taught business communication modules.
Lecturers have a variety of responsibilities in teaching a course in OB: demonstrating expertise and communication skills, educating students, and evaluating students’ performance. Evaluation is an integral part of learning.
The exchange of information and the transmission of meaning are the very essence of work organizations. As others have pointed out, exercising organizational leadership depends upon the effective use of verbal and nonverbal language and behaviour.
Click on the links below for more information on each of the parts of the guide.
The skill development guide has been written by Carolyn Forshaw. Click here to find out more about Carolyn and the other Work and Organizational Behaviour authors.
