Notes for lecturers
For each chapter of Work and Organizational Behaviour, a film has been identified to enhance learning.
Click here to download details of each film.
You will see that for each film, a brief overview is given, designed to help orientate students and enable them to place the film in broad context.
This is followed by a list of questions for them to consider while watching the film. Space is given for them to produce an initial analysis, before moving on to think more specifically about how the film relates to learning points about OB.
Suggestions on how to use the film guide
Your use of the film guide will of course depend on a range of factors, including the time you have available and your individual teaching style. However, here are a few suggestions:
- Watch the film in full in advance to collect your own thoughts on how it relates to OB and ensure that you feel it is suitable.
- You may find that there isn’t enough time to show students an entire film during a lecture/seminar. If this is the case, it is useful to ask the students to view the film in advance, giving them a copy of the relevant page of the ‘Film guide’ download to look at and fill in (or reserving it for your own use, if you prefer). You can then pick a key extract to watch together in class, from which you can draw out useful learning points. Suggestions on key extracts to pick out are given in the lecturer version of the film guide itself.
- Discussions arising from films can be lively and are an excellent way to get students engaged in the subject and thinking deeply about some of the issues. Make sure they have read through the ‘Learning points’ and ‘Points to consider’ before they start watching so that they gather their thoughts as they go along, and so that the discussion remains linked to OB rather than diverting in other directions.
- Some of the questions under the ‘Points to consider as you watch’ and ‘Learning points’ headings can be adapted to form assignments.
