
John Bratton is Professor of Sociology at Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops, Canada. He was the first Director of the Workplace Learning Research Unit at the University of Calgary, and has served on the faculties of several British universities. His research interests span work and employment issues, and he is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Workplace Learning, Canadian Journal for the Study of Adult Education and Leadership. In addition to co-authoring this book, he is co-author (with David Denham and Linda Deutschmann of Capitalism and Classical Sociological Theory (2009), he is co-author (with Jeff Gold) of Human Resource Management: Theory and Practice, now in its fourth edition; co-author (with Peter Sawchuk, J. Helms-Mills and T. Pyrch) of Workplace Learning: A critical introduction (2004), co-author (with Keith Grint and Debra Nelson) of Organizational Leadership (2005), author of Japanization of Work: Managerial Studies in the 1990s (1992), and co-author (with Jeremy Waddington) of New Technology and Employment (1981).

Peter H. Sawchuk is a member of the Sociology and Equity Studies department at the University of Toronto. He teaches, researches and writes in the areas of technological design, learning, work and the labour movement. He is Director of the Centre for the Study of Education & Work (see www.learningwork.ca). His latest books include Adult Learning and Technology in Working-Class Life (Cambridge, 2003), Hidden Dimensions of Knowledge: Organized labour in the Information Age (co-authored with D. Livingstone; Rowman and Littlefield, 2004), and most recently Critical Perspectives on Activity: Explorations of education, work and everyday life (co-edited with N. Duarte and M. Elhammoumi; Cambridge 2006) and Challenging Transitions in Learning and Work (Sense, 2009).

Carolyn Forshaw is a communications consultant. She lectured in professional writing at Thompson Rivers University until 2007. She has had over 25 years' experience in the field in Britain and Canada. Her professional interests include gender and language, post-colonial literary theory and Canadian and Caribbean literature.
Militza Callinan is a Chartered Psychologist and lectures in organizational behaviour and human resource management at Leeds University Business School, England. Her main research interests are in the measurement and understanding of individual behaviour and characteristics such as personality, and how this knowledge about people is applied in the workplace for employee selection, assessment and development.

Martin Corbett is Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour at the University of Warwick Business School where he teaches a range of Organisational Behaviour modules at undergraduate, specialist Masters and MBA level. His research interests include technophobia, the cultural history of the human sensorium, and non-unconscious influences on perception and decision-making.
