Guidelines
Focus group
- Prepare a list of issues you want to cover.
- Invite a group of people with sufficient experiences in common on the research problem to meet at a neutral location.
- Create a relaxed atmosphere when introducing the group members and explaining the purpose of the focus group and how it will be conducted.
- Start the session with a broad, open question. This can be displayed on an overhead projector or flip chart. If possible, give visual explanations or examples.
- Allow the group to discuss the issue(s) as you introduce them without intervention from you, except to ensure that all members have an opportunity to contribute to the discussion and all the issues are covered.
