Books on financial markets usually involve a large number of mathematical formulae. In this case I have had the non-numerate reader in mind and, while there are references to formulae from time to time, no equations or Greek letters are given (to the relief of many!). On the other hand, those readers who are quite happy with mathematics may find this a little limiting.
For this reason, we have supplemented the 5th edition of this book with analytical material on the following topics. The chapters of this book for which they are relevant are also given:
Chapter 6
The Money and Bond Markets – Theories of the yield curve.
Bond price calculation and duration.
Chapter 7
Stock Exchange – Portfolio theory – the capital asset pricing model.
Chapter 12
Traded Options – Option Pricing.
These examples are all taken from the excellent Finance and Financial Markets by Keith Pilbeam, and I am grateful for his cooperation. Indeed, those who are happy with mathematics might consider using this book in association with my own.
