Humanitarian Response Index 2007
'I firmly believe that the Humanitarian Response Index will serve as a crucial tool to help ensure that no disaster is ignored, and that every dollar spent helps those most in need.' Kofi A. Annan, Former Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The purpose of this annual report, designed and created by DARA is to develop an index of good humanitarian donorship that will measure donors' effectiveness against their commitment to the Principles and Good Practise of Humanitarian Donorship. The Humanitarian Response Index is intended to help the international donor community to better understand its strengths and weaknesses in order to improve the efficiency and quality of its donor activities and initiatives. The index is also expected to raise awareness about the increasingly important role of humanitarian action and associated good practices beyond its current core constituencies.
Human Development Report 2007/2008
In November 2007 we will publish the UNDP’s Human Development Report 2007. Produced annually since 1990, the Human Development Report presents agenda-setting data and analysis and calls international attention to issues and policy options that put people at the centre of strategies to meet the challenges of development - economic, social, political, and cultural.
This year’s Human Development Report explains why we have less than a decade to change course and start living within our global carbon budget. It explains how climate change will create long-run low human development traps, pushing vulnerable people into a downward spiral of deprivation.
