International Literacy Day 2017
“The world has changed since 1966 – but our determination to provide every woman and man with the skills, capacities and opportunities to become everything they wish, in dignity and respect, remains as firm as ever. Literacy is a foundation to build a more sustainable future for all.” - UNESCO Director-General
Launched by UNESCO in 1965, the aim of International Literacy Day is to promote the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and society. With 2017’s observance themed ‘Literacy in a digital world’ we bring you some of the most recent writing from leading researchers around the world – from Jamissen et al.’s lively exploration of the role of digital storytelling within higher education, to Chatwara Duran’s discussion language and literacy practices among refugee families.
