The Government has responded to the Law Commission’s consultation paper ‘Cohabitation – the financial consequences of relationship breakdown’. It wishes to carry out research on the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006 which contains provisions similar to those recommended by the Law Commission and also to look at the cost of setting up a scheme and the likely benefits. So, all of a sudden, nothing happened. Anyone thinking of cohabiting ignores the contents of Chapter 9 at his or her own peril.
