The Critical Issues series focuses on authors that students read and enjoy; the books provide an illuminating sense of a critical discussion that is very much alive and ongoing. Each volume in Critical Issues constructs a view of a major writer; at the same time it will start to open up the student's own thinking about that writer.
These single author studies - written by prominent academic critics - offer an innovative and sustained new reading of a number of the most studied, and most popular, novelists, poets and playwrights. Each volume builds upon, and takes account of, the most up-to-date critical and theoretical thinking, offering the reader an informed impression of how critics today have been, and still are, talking about an author. Written with particular attention to clarity of expression and explanation, books in the Critical Issues series will enable the student to penetrate immediately to the heart of a critical debate.
