Tom Carty is the Series Editor for the whole Foundations Languages Series, was formerly Principal Lecturer in German and IWLP Leader at Staffordshire University and the University of Wolverhampton where he designed, managed and taught on the IWLP programmes. He has written extensively on IWLP issues. Authors of the individual Foundations books are listed below.

Dounia Bissar is Senior Lecturer in French at the University of North London. As French Coordinator on the Open Language Programme, she has developed the generic course syllabi and assessment instruments, as well as designing teaching/learning materials (including self-study) for French. Her research interests are in discourse analysis and its application to language teaching, particularly the grammar of French. She has also written papers on language testing.
Helen Phillips is Deputy Director of Applied Foreign Languages at the University of Bristol, and was formerly Director of the Open Language Programme at the University of North London, one of the largest IWLP's in the UK. She has taught French on various commercial language training courses and at undergraduate level. She is the co-author of En Train de Parler, a French language course written for Eurostar.
Cécile Tschirhart is Senior Lecturer in French at the University of North London. She has also taught at Liverpool John Moores University and City of Liverpool Community College. She has written a number of papers on independent study and developed teaching and learning materials for students and staff. She is the independent learning coordinator on the IWLP at the University of North London.
Kate Beeching is a Senior Lecturer in Linguistics and French at the University of the West of England. She has taught non-specialist French at post GCSE level for many years and has already published a number of highly successful French text-books at this level. She is the author of several articles on pedagogic issues including the implementation of institution-wide language programmes and approaches to teaching French to non-specialists. |

Ilse Wührer is a teaching fellow at Keele University and tutor on the Subsidiary German Course, with responsibility for course planning. She has been teaching on IWLP courses for 10 years. |

Cathy Holden is a tutor at the Institute for Applied Language Studies, University of Edinburgh. She has taught Spanish, French and English in a variety of Higher and Further Education establishments, including Manchester Metropolitan University and Staffordshire University. In addition to Foundations Spanish 1, she has co-written two books for the Open University's Spanish course.
María del Carmen Gil Ortega is a Teaching Fellow at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, UK. She previously taught Spanish at the University of Brighton, UK and also with Sixth Form and Adult Education students. She has been involved in various materials design projects including the on-line www.doki.tv course.
María E Greco is Senior Tutor in Spanish at the University of Sussex. She developed the Undergraduate Spanish Courses at the University and has taught there for over twenty years. Previously, she taught Spanish as a Foreign Language at many schools in the UK and abroad.
Gabriel Sánchez-Sánchez is a Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish and French) at Oakmeeds Community College, and formerly Tutor in Spanish at the University of Sussex where he taught undergraduate and specialist courses. He collaborates with the University of Sussex Widening Participation Programme developing foreign language teaching activities for schools.

Mara Benetti is a Visiting Lecturer at Imperial College and at Goldsmith's College, University of London. Maria has taught and researched in different parts of the world and she is now collaborating with the BBC as a language adviser for one of their courses.
Carmela Murtas is Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster, London, where she teaches Italian on the IWL programme. She has extensive experience teaching Italian to foreigners at both private and tertiary level in the UK. She is also an Italian teacher trainer at International House, London.
Caterina Varchetta was Italian Coordinator at the London Metropolitan University, UK, where she also taught Italian on the IWL Programme. She has a wealth of experience teaching Italian as a foreign language at further and tertiary level in the UK.
Roberto di Napoli is Senior Lecturer in Educational Development at Imperial College London. He was formerly Senior Lecturer at the University of Westminster where he taught Italian, Teacher Education and Cross-Cultural Studies. Roberto has authored a number of articles on issues relating to language teaching at tertiary level.
Cristina Testi is a Lecturer at the Language Centre of University College London, UK, where she teaches Italian and she also teaches at the Italian Cultural Institute in London. Cristina is a Teacher Trainer at the International House and teaches in Italy for the British Institute of Florence. |
