Chapter 16 Challenges to professional practice
The aim of this chapter is to start you thinking about some of the issues that
influence the ways in which nurses operate as registered practitioners to manage and
deliver nursing care. At the end of the chapter, you should be able to:
- Define professional practice and discuss the responsibilities involved
- Understand the Code of Professional Conduct in relation to your own roles and
responsibilities as a student, with particular relationship to accountability and informed
consent
- Describe the role that personal, organisational and professional beliefs and values play
in underpinning practice
- Identify the influence of models and frameworks of care in nursing practice
- Discuss the significance of quality assessment, standards and the role of clinical
governance in evaluating nursing care
- Identify your own responsibilities for evidence-based practice and lifelong
learning.
