Chapter 6 Respiration and circulation
The purpose of this chapter is to examine factors associated with respiratory and cardiac
function. It will explore the nursefs role in relation to assessing and implementing
care with clients who experience difficulties of maintaining breathing and circulation. At
the end of the chapter, you should be able to:
- Monitor and interpret a clientfs respiratory and cardiac vital signs
- Rationalise common deviations from normal values
- Identify techniques for maintaining cardiorespiratory function
- Assist clients in maintaining effective cardiorespiratory function
- Recognise the signs of cardiorespiratory arrest
- Describe the appropriate response and initial management of a collapsed
client.
