Chapter 8 Movement and Mobility
Movement is vital in many activities, for example in seeking food and avoiding
danger. As disease or ageing impairs mobility, the nurse has an important role in

client's well-being. On completing this chapter, you will be able to:
- Describe the musculoskeletal system, skin, lever systems and movement
- Appreciate the importance of physical activity and movement throughout the life span, as
well as the importance of exercise on health and physical fitness
- Understand some of the diseases and conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system and
mobility
- Appreciate the impact of impaired mobility on social, psychological and
physical health
- Understand the development of pressure sores and the nursing care involved in their
prevention
- Appreciate the role of the nurse when caring for the client with impaired
mobility.
There are also a number of activities throughout the chapter to enhance learning. |
