About Palgrave Open
Palgrave Open offers authors and their funders the option to publish open access (OA) research across all publication formats. Palgrave Macmillan journal articles, monographs and Palgrave Pivot publications can now be made available with immediate open access upon publication.
With Palgrave Open, Palgrave Macmillan is taking the lead in responding to the academic community’s request for an alternative publishing model to sit alongside traditional methods.
"It is an opportune time for monograph publishers to experiment with open access models and engage with the research community. As members of our OAPEN-UK project that is researching open access monographs, Palgrave Macmillan has shown its commitment to exploring new models and Palgrave Open is a demonstration of their willingness to experiment." - Lorraine Estelle, CEO, JISC Collections
Creative Commons license
Palgrave Open publishes OA content under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) License to support maximum dissemination and use.* Preferred by many research funding bodies, this license allows readers to alter, transform, or build upon the article and then distribute the resulting work as long as the original work is correctly cited. The CC BY license complies with a range of open access policies and allows authors to meet the public access requirements of many major funding bodies and institutions worldwide. Alternative Creative Commons licenses are available to authors on request.
Palgrave Macmillan is the only commercial publisher to offer this license across 3 publication outputs: journal articles, mid-form (Palgrave Pivot) and long-form (monograph) research.
Content published via Palgrave Open is subject to the same professional and rigorous peer-review process as all other Palgrave Macmillan publications. The opportunity to publish open access is only available to authors once their research has been approved for publication. Authors can opt to pay a publication charge in order for their research to be made freely available.
* Three Palgrave Macmillan journals operate under slightly different terms. For details please visit the Frequently Asked Questions section of the journals website.
