Politics - EU Resource Area
A Guide to European Union Environmental Legislation By John McCormick
The following list includes - in numerical order by year of adoption - all environmental regulations, directives and decisions adopted by the European Union by the end of 1999, including those no longer in force. It includes those laws which have the environment and the management of natural resources as their principal focus, or which have had a significant impact on the development of EU environmental policy. It includes legislation relating to such issues as organic agriculture, energy conservation, and the management of fisheries, but excludes legislation relating to such issues as animal welfare, agricultural matters with an incidental environmental component, radiation protection during medical exams or treatment, occupational health and safety, good laboratory practice, fishing quotas, consumer safety, and legislation aimed at specific member states. It also excludes opinions, recommendations, conclusions, declarations and resolutions.
Where a piece of legislation is described as an amendment to a previous piece of legislation, the term "amends" is shorthand for changes, provides more detail, elaborates on, provides detail on implementation, lists exceptions, establishes quotas, provides extensions, or provides derogations.
This list has been drawn up in conjunction with the author's new book Environmental Policy in the European Union and is not designed for use in relation to litigation: the author and publisher can accept no responsibility for any loss or damage sustained using it in any such way or otherwise.![]() |
