Sociology and Nursing Practice
Edited by
Margaret Miers, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, University of West England, UK
Sam Porter, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Queen's University, Belfast, UK
Geoff Wilkinson, Faculty of Health and Social Care, University of the West of England

Because of the insights it allows, it is widely accepted that sociology should form a constituent part of nursing's knowledge base. Unfortunately, the relationship of the disciplines has not been as productive in practice as it might have been. This series bridges the gulf between sociology and nursing care, demonstrating the ways in which sociological knowledge and theory can inform and enhance nursing practice. The authors and editors combine an intimate understanding of nursing work with a commitment to a wider sociological outlook. The volumes on individual issues will encourage nurses towards critical analysis of their practice, and the development of their own contribution to health care.
