Palgrave Macmillan has a distinguished and fast-growing philosophy list with a wide range of works, from introductory textbooks and general interest titles to research monographs. We are proud to be publishing many new series reflecting the depth, quality and energy of new research in the field, including History of Analytic Philosophy, New Directions in Philosophy and Cognitive Science, New Waves in Philosophy, and Philosophers in Depth. Alongside these are several longstanding series such as Renewing Philosophy and John Hick's well-established Library of Philosophy and Religion . Market-leading textbooks such as Bryan Greetham's invaluable Philosophy, Julian Baggini's Philosophy: Key Texts and Philosophy: Key Themes provide the student and general reader with accessible and engaging introductions, whilst our newest textbooks, such as Knowledge by Duncan Pritchard and Animal Rights by Mark Rowlands offer alternative and engaging advanced introductions.
As part of the same Macmillan company which has been publishing since 1843, our backlist boasts a variety of classic texts by authors such as William James, John Dewey, Emile Durkheim, Bernard Bosanquet, James Baldwin, Friedrich Waismann and A.J. Ayer to name but a few. In recent years we have also brought to life reissues of several classic works from the Macmillan archives – a reissue of Immanuel Kant's Critique of Pure Reason in its seminal translation by Norman Kemp-Smith, accompanied by a new extended bibliography by Kant scholar Gary Banham, as well as a three volume centenary series of works by Henri Bergson, including his Creative Evolution, Mind-Energy and An Introduction to Metaphysics, each fully reset and accompanied by critical introductions from Keith Ansell Pearson and John Mullarkey.
2011 sees the publication of Michel Foucault’s The Courage of Truth, the seventh volume in our series of books deriving from his lectures at the Collège de France. It will also be a significant year for our pioneering new series on Animal Ethics, with several notable publications in the spring and in the autumn. These new titles will add to the recently published ground-breaking texts An Introduction to Animals and Political Theory by Alasdair Cochrane and An Introduction to Animals and the Law by Joan E. Schaffner.
