The annual BISA conference was held at the University of Leicester from 14th–16th December 2009. Palgrave Macmillan attended this popular event, displaying and selling a range of leading International Relations titles. We also ran a presentation of our highly successful new e-books platform, Palgrave Connect, and conducted a prize draw to win a Sony e-reader. We are very pleased to announce that the winner of this competition was Professor Stuart Croft of Warwick University. Congratulations Stuart!
On 14th December 2009, the book launch of
British Party Politics and Ideology after New Labour
, edited by Simon Griffiths and Kevin Hickson, was held at the British Academy in London. This successful and well-attended event featured two prominent speakers, David Willetts MP, Shadow Minister for Universities and Skills, and Lord Plant of Highfield. Palgrave Macmillan would like to thank Counterpoint director, Catherine Fieschi and her team for their hard work in organising a very successful launch event for this book on 25th November 2009 at Canada house in London.
After introductions from Catherine and the book’s editor Jonathan Pugh, of Newcastle University, a lively discussion ensued with fellow panellists Doreen Massey, David Chandler and Saskia Sassen (all of whom are also contributors to the book).

On 30th July 2009, Andrew Gamble gave a lecture to a packed theatre of students in London as part of LSE?s Summer School programme.? Gamble, author of
The Spectre at the Feast ? Capitalist Crisis and the Politics of Recession
, reflected on the subject of his book, exploring the developments that led to the crisis occurring, considering the international repercussions and suggesting what the next steps for the economy may be.? After an enthusiastic question and answer session, Gamble signed copies of his book for audience members before speaking further with students and other guests at the drinks reception.?
