The advice which follows takes into account that you are beginning a taught course rather than a course of self-tuition. You should refer to it regularly!
- Check the syllabus.
- Remember your tutor is your guide…
- …but you do the learning!
- Attend the class regularly
- …and participate actively.
- Work outside the classroom,
- …constantly reviewing your learning.
- Be organised.
- Use the Language Centre or other private study facilities.
- Learn the grammar and don’t be afraid of grammatical terms.
- Work from the start on getting pronunciation and intonation right.
- Remember understanding isn’t the same as producing the language…
- ….but you don’t have to be sure of every word to get the message.
- Meet fellow students who are native speakers of the language.
- Enjoy yourself!
