The whole of our Sociology and Gender studies lists reveal the sense of debate which is so central to the subject areas. Core introductory textbooks, such as Introductory Sociology by Tony Bilton et al. and Global Sociology by Robin Cohen and Paul Kennedy offer the thorough grounding with which to access the broad range of research works in the list. Introducing Women's Studies offers a similarly solid foundation from which to explore the rest of our healthy Gender Studies list.

Challenging Globalization: new perspectives, alternative visions, emerging agendas
2nd - 4th September 2009
This year's GSA conference provides an opportunity to explore critical approaches to globalization and the challenges to global studies represented by a variety of perspectives, including but not limited to cosmopolitanism, transnational studies, and resurgent nationalisms, and importantly also offers an opportunity for global studies scholars to challenge the skeptics and assert the enduring relevance of globalization to an understanding of the world.
