More about the datasets

In addition to adapting the ISSP data in order to make the datasets more suitable for student use, we generated a significant number of attitude scales and indices of social standing that are not in the original ISSP data. These widen the scope of potential analyses that you can carry out. For information about the meanings of these additional variables and how to interpret them, see Appendix One of SPSS for Social Scientists 2e.

The core version of the questionnaire used by the nations that took part in the survey can be accessed as a *.pdf file located at the University of Cologne here. (Since each national survey used its own methodology to ask the additional 'background' on items such as age, gender, educational level etc, only the work orientation questions are in the core questionnaire.)

Information about the International Social Survey Programme can be found in the textbook at the beginning of the 'Orientation' chapter. Further background can be obtained by linking to the German Social Science Infrastructure Services (GESIS) website where an extensive collection of additional information about the 2005 Work Orientation survey and about the ISSP generally are located here.
