Welcome to the Companion Website for:

SPSS for Social Scientists, 2nd Edition
By Ciaran Acton and Robert Miller

with Deirdre Fullerton and John Maltby

This website gives you access to the teaching datasets that support the second edition of SPSS for Social Scientists. Drawn from the 2005 'Work Orientations' module of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP), 31 countries are represented here in 63 datasets that we've generated from the data. These include:

  • A full-size teaching dataset for each participating nation;
  • A special teaching dataset for each nation that is designed to work with the Student Version of SPSS(using a reduced number of variables with the maximum number of cases limited to no more than 1,500);
  • An 'all nations' teaching dataset that contains data from all of the 31 countries.
Each dataset can be downloaded as an SPSS portable file (*.por) that will generate the required SPSS dataset on your computer. The datasets can be accessed by clicking on the 'hot links' that are listed here.

Note that the datasets on our website were created solely for teaching purposes. If you wish to analyse the 2005 Work Orientations module for research purposes, you must use the original data that is freely available from the ISSP: www.issp.org.
