Online shopping

You can buy print copies via this website where they are available in your area. To order a title, click 'ADD to basket' on the book page and your item will be placed in your basket. When you are ready to complete an order, click on the 'basket ' at the top right of the screen. You will be directed to our secure pages, where you will need to enter your email address and payment details, before we can process your order.

As you add or remove items the price will change, the TOTAL price includes the value of the items. The price of post and packaging depends on where you are and how many books you are ordering. Please select the post and packing relevant to where you live. More information on post and packaging and delivery can be found in our delivery FAQ.

I want to buy a large number of copies - can you help me with special shipping arrangements?

We can arrange special shipping, for any special orders please email the Customer Services Team at customerservice@springernature.com.

What is the reference number on my order?

This is your unique number relating to your order and should be used in any correspondence with the Customer Services Team as it means we can identify immediately which order you are wishing to discuss.

Can I change or cancel my order?

If you then change your mind or realise that you have forgotten to tell us that your order is to be delivered to someone other than you, please email the Customer Services Team at customerservice@springernature.com. As long as your order has not been dispatched we will be able to make any changes you require. Please quote your order reference number in any discussions.

We regret that customers with delivery or billing address in one of the countries listed below can not buy books on this website. It may be possible to order directly from us offline, please contact customerservice@springernature.com. We publish most of our titles as ebooks but do not supply them directly from this site. Most of our titles are available for purchase as ebooks by libraries.

Libraries can buy direct from us and build a collection of our titles on our award-winning ebook platform Palgrave Connect. Over 14,000 titles are available on Palgrave Connect.

E-textbooks and customised publications

We are happy to arrange access to ebook versions of class texts for your students. This can be purchased directly with us or in partnership with your chosen ebook supplier.

Availability & Pricing

If you have a book on the website does that mean I can buy it from you?

You can purchase print copies via this site where they are available in your area.

The possible availability flags are:
'not yet published' - you will see the 'buy' button if we can accept an advance order for titles from your country.
'in stock'
'print on demand' - this is where a publication is not stocked in our warehouse, but can be printed when ordered. Print on demand publications are of the same professional high quality as our stocked publications, printed using the best modern processes.
'no longer available'
'out of stock'
'back in stock soon'
'​out of print'

If you are unsure whether the title you require is in stock or not, please contact us via customerservice@springernature.com and we will check. If the book you order is temporarily out of stock we will place a special order for you and will contact you by email as to how long delivery time will be.

 What if there is no 'buy' button showing?

We will not show a buy button unless the publication is available to purchase in your region. If it is not shown this may be because we do not have rights to sell it to you in your area or because it is not yet held in our warehouses and we cannot take advance orders for the book.

Payment

How can I pay?

​To order online you will need a VISA, MasterCard or American Express card. We will not charge your account until your order is dispatched. All payments should be made in pound sterling.

Is it safe to pay online?

When you place an order online your personal details are completely safe. We use the industry standard secure server software, which protects your information as it is transmitted over the Internet. Your order is encrypted so that no one else can read it, and is not decoded until it reaches our secure server. When it reaches us, only authorised personnel will see it.

We do not store your credit card details online, so other internet users cannot access your details. We are confident that whilst you are using our site, there is no chance of this happening. This guarantee is limited to purchases made through our secure server and is subject to notification of your card issuer in line with its regulations.

What is the Card Verification Code?

The Card Verification Code system has been introduced by banks as a measure to combat credit card fraud. If you are using Visa or Mastercard, this will be a three digit code on the back of the card.

Why do you need my telephone number?

The courier companies we employ request that we supply your number in case they need to contact you about the delivery. We do not expect to contact you unless there is a problem.

Will my private details stay private?

Yes. For your convenience, we will keep a record of your contact information so that we can make it easier for you to order in the future - and so that we can send you information about other Macmillan products that might be of interest or important to you. We do not sell or rent your personal details to anyone. We also don't store your details online so other internet users cannot access them.

Security

Are my details secure?

We run this site on secure server software that encrypts all your personal information preventing it from being accessed or read by any third party.If you are still concerned about ordering online, see the section Can I place my order with you by other means? below.

I am receiving a error/problem message. What does it mean?

You may receive a message telling you that your card has not been authorised for this order. This means the bank was unable to authorise your transaction and you must either provide details of another credit card in order to complete the order or replace the problem information. Your card provider will not tell us of any reason should your card be rejected.

What is Pre-Authorisation?

Pre-authorisation, sometimes also called pending charge, applies if you place an order containing items that are currently out of stock (this includes titles that are not yet published).

The payment required for out of stock items when placing an order is deducted from the order total and is used to authorise the funds on your credit card. The amount is £1 plus delivery costs and is reserved by your bank against your card’s credit limit.

No monies are taken until the item is ready for dispatch.

Should the order not proceed for whatever reason, the bank will cease to reserve the funds - the expiration period varies from bank to bank and we have no influence on this. When the order is completed and your card is charged, the pre-authorisation code is quoted back to the bank and the order is therefore completed.

Can I place my order with you by other means?

You can place your order with us by phone or email via our orders team. Please contact customerservice@springernature.com or call us. Please do not email your credit card details to us.

Changing my details

How can I change my email address?

Your email address is the key element that tells us who you are and allows us to find your record. If your email address has changed please create a new account.

We are able to transfer your history from your record associated with your original email address - please email customerservice@springernature.com quoting your original email address and your new email address and we will amend the records to allow your history to be transferred to the account associated with your new email address. Please also be sure to check out the courses we have listed for you via My Courses and let us know those you are no longer teaching.

What if I have changed department or university?

If you have moved department and/or academic institution please email our team at customerservice@springernature.com​​​​​​​ and we will amend your record to connect you to your new department.
