About this book
A person's biological, psychological and social systems are the basis of Orem's self-care model of nursing. Self-care means the activities to maintain life, health and well-being which individuals perform. The model emphasises personal responsibility, holistic approaches and state of health and well-being rather than ill-health.

About the author
STEPHEN J, CAVANAGH, RGN, BA(Nurs.), MS, MPA, Ph.D., MBIM, received an undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, went on to postgraduate studies in California, and completed a doctorate in nursing from the University of Texas at Austin. He has worked in the field of neurosurgical nursing both in the UK and USA. Following a move into education, he has lectured at the University of Texas at Austin, and California State University, Los Angeles, where Orem was used at the curriculum model. He is currently Professor and Head, Health & Nursing Studies, School of Health Sciences, University of Wolverhampton.
