Gendethimma, a simple and itinerant trader, is torn between the age-old customs of his family and the intriguing and somewhat unsettling changes his fashion-conscious bride brings. Events, both collective and personal, parallel the deep sense of unease that echoes throughout the novel.

About the author

SRIKRISHNA ALANAHALLY (1945-89) was one of the foremost Navya movement novelists.

P.P. GIRIDHAR, the translator from the original Kannada, is currently Assistant Director of the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore.
