About this book

This book grew out of the 4 years the author spent living in the Palestinian West Bank under Israel occupation. During this time she interviewed over sixty women about their lives. Not concerned primarily with politics, nor a plea for the Palestinian cause, the book deals with the internal social life of the Palestinian community, and in particular how the position of women and their perceptions of themselves have been changed by the upheavals and transformation of Palestinian society through the 20th century.
