About this book

The European Community's 'Social Dimension' covers a wide area of social policy which is not always readily understood. This book contains an historical overview of EC social policy which analyses its development over the last forty years. Subsequent chapters focus on specific topics - including equal opportunities, employment protection, and health and safety - to give the reader a more detailed background on the nature of EC involvement including the debates, the proposals and legislation. The book also explores the most recent controversies surrounding the Social Chapter and the Maastricht Treaty.
