About this book

This book introduces and explains a series of tools for curriculum renewal and revitalization in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs, based on the experiences of the authors in successfully implementing a new curriculum in a large EAP program in North America. The book focuses on the why and how of introducing curriculum change, while also engaging critically with the realities of day-to-day classroom practice and the important issue of teacher engagement. While maintaining a principles-driven approach, each chapter is also filled with tools, samples and case study examples, grounding the book in practice and making it an essential resource for language teachers, teacher trainers, and students on TESOL and related courses.

Reviews

“Presented as a step-by-step guide, the book takes the reader through a curriculum review and development process ... . Besides being strongly based on research, the book has various strengths in its practicality as well. One particular strength is that it is highly reader-friendly. ... Overall, the book is a useful resource for academic managers and curriculum specialists preparing to review their EAP courses.” (Agnes Bodis, English Australia Journal, Vol. 37 (2), 2021)

A very useful overview and introduction to ESP course design. The authors draw on a comprehensive understanding of curriculum theory and practice, and the useful examples, case studies and guidelines given throughout the book make it a valuable resource for ESP practitioners.

– Professor Jack C Richards, University of Sydney, Australia

This book is my new ‘go-to’ resource for practical insights and tools to guide the processes of building, refining and evaluating an EAP Curriculum. The authors seamlessly weave into the book their own story of curriculum renewal, taking the reader through every detail of the process. Illuminating and eminently useable.

– Dr Jonathan Newton, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand
