About this book

How can the diffusion and development of women's cricket as a global sport be explained? Women 's Cricket and Global Processes considers the emergence and growth of women's cricket around the world and seeks to provide a sociological explanation for how and why the women's game has developed the way it has.

About the authors

Philippa Velija is Head of Programme for Sport Development & Education at York St John University, UK. She applies sociological theories to understanding sport, and in particular she considers gender relations in sport. She has previously published on women's cricket, women and the martial arts and female jockeys. Philippa's research draws on figurational sociology to develop a long term sociological perspective on power relations in women's involvement in sport.
