About this book
Part III focuses on different types of offense or offender groups asstarting points. This perspective has relevance since many criminal justice and forensic mental health systems allocate offenders to interventions based on their index offense (or history of offenses). Finally, Part IV addresses the application of clinical psychology in the service of assessment and treatment in forensic settings. It includes the state of the art on diagnostic and risk assessment, as well as both widely used and recently developed interventions. This book is an excellent resource for students at both Bachelor’s and Master’s level, while also representing a comprehensive handbook for experienced researchers and practitioners.
Reviews
“Brilliant book on the subject, contains up-to-date information from some of the leading experts in the world. This new book is unique in that all chapters are transdisciplinary, providing the reader with a thoughtful and compelling understanding of offending. Although an introductory text, it forces even the experts in the field to think more deeply about these topics. Garofalo and Sijtsema have done a masterful job in producing an accessible yet scientifically rigorous book that should be an essential read across the various disciplines interested in a global understanding of offending” - Professor Eric Beauregard, Simon Fraser University, Canada.
“This book provides an excellent and comprehensive overview of forensic psychology from established scholars and practitioners in the field. It will be an excellent reference for individuals wanting to gain a broad overview of the topic and I will be recommending it to all of my students. I particularly liked the introduction to the history of forensic psychology with the focus on lack of cultural competence in the field as well as the chapter on ethics since these topics so often get neglected. In my view, this book should be the first port of call for anyone interested in getting an up-to-date grounding in this topic” - Theresa A. Gannon, Professorof Forensic Psychology, University of Kent, UK.
“This book will become the Bible of forensic mental health professionals. It has it all, in depth, and up to date. There is coverage of crime causes (e.g., biological, psychological, social), offenders’ mental health (e.g., personality disorder, psychosis, ADHD), specific behaviours (e.g., sexual offending, homicide, intimate partner violence), and clinical approaches (e.g., risk assessment, prevention, treatments). The chapter authors form a who’s who of worldwide experts in forensic behavior. It’s a big book, but a quick read, because each chapter is superbly well-written and tightly focused on exactly what we need to know. I would recommend it for forensic mental health practitioners, but also for all academics and students in clinical psychology and criminology, and for law-enforcement professionals. Anyone who wants to reduce the appalling damage of antisocial behavior will findhelp in this important new handbook” - Terrie Moffitt, Professor of Social Behaviour and Development, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, UK.
“Clinical Forensic Psychology: Introductory Perspectives' is simply the best introduction to this key area available and likely to remain so for some time. A comprehensive, brilliantly organised accessible review provided by the best experts in the field, A great editorial achievement that is an exceptional textbook at the same time as a desk-reference of exceptional value to both students and expert practitioners” - Professor Peter Fonagy OBE, Head of the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences, University College London, UK.
