File formats available

We will provide the most accessible format possible according to the availability of files for each title.

Print PDF

Print PDF is our mostly commonly available electronic format. These will be supplied as chapter separated files. However please notify us if you would like a singled combined book file. Our Print PDF files will have a text layer that permits text to speech, reflow and colour change functions. These files do not contain bookmarks, a tagged reading order or Alt text.

eBook PDF

Where possible we will provide eBook PDF files. As with Palgrave Print PDFs, our eBook PDFs will have a text layer that permits text to speech, reflow and colour change functions. In addition to these, our eBook PDFs contain bookmarks which structure main headings and subheadings. These files do not contain a tagged reading order or Alt text.

EPUB 2

In some cases we may be able to provide EPUB 2 format for Academic Monograph titles published after 2009. A smaller number of Higher Education titles are also available in this format.

Our EPUB2 files are fully reflowable with hyperlinked headings, subheadings, figures, tables and numbered in-text citations. Our EPUB 2 files will not contain Alt text tags. In some instances complex mathematical formulae will be displayed as images.

Further Information

If the above formats do not meet your requirements please contact rights@palgrave.com to discuss alternative options. Dependent on title availability, Palgrave Macmillan may arrange conversion to eBook PDF (with tagged reading order and bookmarks) or reflowable EPUB3. This will take an additional week to process.

Please note that as Word.doc/x or braille formats are not a standard publishing output Palgrave are unable to provide these files. If you require conversion to these formats please be aware that this should be arranged via your library.

If you want information on making the most of PDF accessibility see the Reading PDFs guidance on the Jisc TechDis website. This includes how to navigate through PDFs, magnify and reflow text, auto scroll or readout loud.
