Welcome to Social Science Matters!
Launched with the publication of Why the Social Sciences Matter in January 2015, our Social Science Matters campaign marks our commitment to championing original and authoritative research within the Social Sciences.
As a publisher of high quality, peer-reviewed research, we work closely with our academic community. We established the need for this campaign by conducting interviews, discussing pain points in workflows and identifying opportunities for promoting what we publish. Social Science Matters is a result of this research. Any serious attempt to grapple with the opportunities, challenges and uncertainties of the coming decade will demand the skills, insights and imagination of well-trained social scientists. Growth, health, security and wellbeing all depend on knowing how markets, organisations, individuals and households work. So I’m pleased to give my strong support to Palgrave's Social Science Matters campaign, which is helping to make the case for social science with policymakers and the wider public. It’s a message that has never been more important.
Tradition of publishing
Macmillan has a long and proud tradition of publishing in the social sciences since the 19th century, publishing key works in the field such as The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics and key authors, including JM Keynes. We are one of the largest publishers of social science research, with offices in London, New York and Shanghai, and are due to publish over 1000 titles in 2015 across all the major subject areas of the field. We are known for supporting early career researchers, championing pioneering research in new fields and establishing series that come to define their research fields (such as the IPE series, which we've been publishing for over 30 years!).
