About this book

This book critically examines the study of International Relations in Poland, looking at the pre-academic origins of the discipline, its development after WWII, under communism, and after the transformation of 1989. Apart from bringing a broad political and intellectual context, it offers a thorough quantitative and qualitative study of hundreds of books and scientific articles. The theoretical and methodological practices of Polish IR scholars are presented in a comparative perspective, looking for common patterns with other European countries. This book is an invaluable resource for scholars with an interest in sociology of IR, disciplinary history or scholarly metrics.

Reviews

“This book is the most comprehensive and critical analysis to date of how the International Relations discipline was cultivated in Poland during the last 100 years. It adds valuable knowledge to the big picture of discipline and diversity in Europe and provides an excellent platform for disciplinary reform.” (Professor Knud Erik Jørgensen, Yasar University, İzmir)

“This book is important for both current and future generations of students of IR. The authors portray the development of the discipline in Poland, while drawing comparisons with other countries. The in-depth historical and empirical analysis contained here offers a significant contribution to the sociology of IR.” (Professor Jan Zielonka, University of Oxford)
