This book provides a critical perspective on people's response to disasters in the Philippines. It draws upon an array of case studies to discuss people's vulnerability, capacities and resilience in facing a wide range of different hazards.

About the author

JC Gaillard is Associate Professor at The University of Auckland, New Zealand. His present work focuses on developing participatory tools for disaster risk reduction and in involving marginalized groups in disaster-related activities.
