About this book

Design Innovation for Health and Medicine offers an innovative approach for solving complex healthcare issues. In this book, three design experts examine a range of case studies to explain how design is used in health and medicine—exploring issues such as diverse patient needs, an ageing population and the impact of globalisation on disease. These case studies, along with high-profile industry projects conducted by the authors over the past decade, inform a novel framework for designing and implementing innovative solutions in this context. The book aims to assist designers, medical engineers, clinicians and researchers to shape the next era of healthcare.

Reviews

“A well written, practical guide to the application of design thinking to the challenge of better healthcare outcomes for everyone. This is an invaluable resource for students, academics and design practitioners who want to understand the critical role of design in the healthcare space.” (Gerard Rummery, Design and Usability Lead, ResMed)
“Nusem, Straker and Wrigley’s new book provides a fresh perspective on the world of medical device design, offering insights into how this complex ecosystem can be navigated. I highly recommend it as a design component when teaching biomedical engineering.” (Dr Shaun Gregory, Senior Research Fellow, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Monash University)

“An essential read for anyone interested in how design thinking can revolutionize modern medicine. The authors’ extensive experience provides excellent case studies into the potential for design to impact on quality of life in healthcare.” (Professor Philip Poronnik, Professor of Biomedical Sciences, School of Medical Sciences, The University of Sydney)
