What We Do

We’re best known for our publishing in the humanities, social sciences, and business. We publish for a global audience, focusing on the needs of researchers, lecturers and students.

We offer our authors the choice to publish their work across a range of formats and lengths.

Monographs

We’re passionate about publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed monographs. In 2014, we published over 2000. Some of the best and brightest minds in the humanities, business and social sciences choose to publish with us, from Tim Shaw to Barry Forshaw, Peninah Thomson and Steve Fuller. We are particularly known for publishing in new, cutting-edge areas such as cybersecurity, mathematical finance, agricultural economics and sustainability, and for our award-winning books series such as New Middle Ages and International Political Economy.

We’re also proud to work with great partners. We publish with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Academy of International Business and the International Economics Association, to name but a few.

All our monographs are offered through our online platform for libraries, SpringerLink, which is used by thousands of students, academics and librarians worldwide.

Journals

We publish 57 journals in the humanities, business and social sciences, from the Journal of Information Technology, to British Politics and Feminist Review. We value our journal publishing partnerships with global learned societies, professional organisations and institutions.

Reference works

Reference works have been at the heart of our business for over a century. The Statesman’s Yearbook celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2013, while The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics has published 36 Nobel laureates, and is widely accepted as the definitive source for a new generation of economists.

Palgrave Macmillan Major Reference Works are authoritative and comprehensive overviews of an important topic from within the Humanities, the Social Sciences or Business. They feature even-handed tertiary literature that offers an entry-point for graduates and above, by pointing them towards the best scholarship and giving an unparalleled overview of the field. Published using an online-first Living Reference Model, they are continuously updated through a dynamic, peer-review publishing process.

The Editor-in-Chiefs of such projects have the chance to summarise their field, influencing the next generation of scholars, and contributing to a world-class collection of Major Reference Works, which also includes The Palgrave Encyclopedia of Strategic Management.
